This year’s lecture was given by Jan Eliasson, former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, and former President of the UN General Assembly. The title of the lecture is Peace, Development and Human Rights: The Indispensable Connection.
Ambassador Eliasson’s lecture departs from The UN General Assembly statement in 2005 that Peace, Development and Human Rights are the three pillars on which to base international action. He points to their intrinsic relations. Eliasson also brings out how Hammarskjöld’s appreciation of nature and culture formed an organic link to diplomacy and international action.
