Cancelled: Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture 2019

We are deeply sorry to announce that this year’s Lecture is cancelled following unforeseen circumstances. Due to a death in the family, our speaker Christiana Figueres is no longer able to attend the event scheduled for 1 October at Uppsala University. The Lecture will be postponed to a later date. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and our thoughts and sympathies are with Ms. Figueres and her family.

This event has been cancelled. 

Christiana Figueres has been called the “the Chief Architect of the Paris agreement” and was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2010–2016. During this tenure, Christiana Figueres brought together governments, corporations and activists, financial institutions and NGOs to jointly deliver the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. For this achievement, Christiana Figueres has been credited with forging a new brand of collaborative diplomacy, for which she has received multiple awards.

The annual Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture is given in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, and in recognition of the values that inspired him personally and as Secretary-General – compassion, humanism, and commitment to international solidarity and cooperation.

The lecture is open for anyone to join without RSVP and will take place in Uppsala University Hall on 1 October at 4 pm.

The event is jointly hosted by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and Uppsala University.
