Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation’s Director Emeritus and current Senior Advisor, Henning Melber, engaged with students and scholars in Vienna a few days after the Climate Summit in Paris on the occasion of two events discussing issues related to development paradigms in times of climate change adaptations and the SDGs. “Beyond Basic Needs: Perspectives on Sustainability and Development in Africa” was the topic of his well attended lecture in the Research Seminar Series at the Institute for Ecological Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business on 15 December. On 17 December he moderated a panel debate on “The SDGs, Implementation and Cooperation” at a workshop on “Environmental Policy – An endeavor critical for achieving sustainable development”, organised by the Vienna chapter of the Society for International Development (SID) in collaboration with the Austrian Development Agency, UNIDO and UNEP at the Austrian Development Bank in Vienna. Panelists shared views on the new quality of the SDGs and how best these could be implemented. Discussants included the former Austrian board member of the World Bank Kurt Bayer and representatives of the Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian chapter of the civil society agency Global Responsibility.
