The annual Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture is given in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, and in recognition of the values that inspired him personally and as Secretary-General – compassion, humanism, and commitment to international solidarity and cooperation. This year we are honoured to have Christiana Figueres speak on ‘Hammarskjöld Today: His Legacy on Environmental Issues’.
Christiana Figueres was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2010 – 2016. During this tenure, Christiana Figueres brought together governments, corporations and activists, financial institutions and NGOs to jointly deliver the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. For this achievement, Christiana Figueres has been credited with forging a new brand of collaborative diplomacy, for which she has received multiple awards.
The lecture is open for anyone to join without RSVP and will take place in Uppsala University Hall on 1 October at 4 pm. The lecture will also be livstreamed.
The event is jointly hosted by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and Uppsala University.
