Human Rights and Inclusivity

Our work in this area contributes to dialogue and action to strengthen multilateral capacity on human rights, democratic governance and inclusivity.

About

This project aims to support strong multilateral action to reinforce respect for agreed international norms, standards, and commitments and to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights, with priority given to those furthest behind. Mobilising the full spectrum of human rights mechanisms while securing adequate resources and principled norm-based leadership is essential for the UN to be able to deliver on its human rights mandate.

This is carried out through dialogues, publications and trainings which aims to uphold and defend human rights, as they are essential for the resolution of conflicts, for long-term prevention and for sustainable development. Therefore, the realisation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the advancement of the Sustaining Peace agenda requires the protection of human rights and adherence to agreed international norms.

New processes such as the New Agenda for Peace, ahead of the Summit for the Future in 2024 and the upcoming Peacebuilding Architecture review in 2025, will also guide wider multilateral efforts focusing on preventing conflict and violence, and sustaining peace.
