Finance Assistant

The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation is now looking for a Finance Assistant to join our administrative unit at the head office in Uppsala. Application deadline is 15 September.

About the position


The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation is now looking for a Finance Assistant to join our administrative unit at the head office in Uppsala.

You will work in an international environment with colleagues and guests from all over the world. The position offers good opportunities to learn and develop within the profession. The workplace is located in beautiful premises in central Uppsala between the University House and Carolina Rediviva.

The position involves support for the organisation in the form of financial and payroll administration, office and conference services.

Employment conditions
  • Permanent contract (6 months probationary period applies).
  • The Foundation applies more generous holiday conditions than those set out in the Annual Holidays Act. Employees up to the age of 29 have 28 days of holiday, from the age of 30 31 days of holiday and from the age of 40 35 days of holiday. The holiday year is the calendar year.
  • Occupational pension under collective agreement
  • Health care allowance of SEK 4 500 per year.

Main responsibilities
  • book keeping and other financial administration, including assisting with financial statements
  • payroll management including travelling expenses
  • monthly reconciliations of company cards, expenses and posting of expenditure
  • assisting the Executive Director with meetings, planning and communication
  • office administration including various purchases
  • mail, parcel and archive management
  • planning and servicing the Foundation’s seminars, conferences and other events
  • other office duties
Qualification requirements
  • At least 2 years of work experience
  • Proven experience in working with finances and other administrative tasks
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Swedish
  • Good IT skills, Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word.)
Experience or training in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage
  • HR administrative tasks and participation in establishing processes, policies and procedures in the HR area
  • IT support
  • Payroll administration
  • Personnel administration
  • Financial administration

About the Foundation

The Dag Hammarskjöld  Foundation is an independent foundation established in 1962 in memory of the second Secretary-General of the United Nations. The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation works to strengthen knowledge, dialogue and policy in international development, cooperation and peace. The Swedish Parliament took the initiative to establish the Foundation shortly after Dag Hammarskjöld’s tragic death, its statutes were adopted in 1962 and a resolution of the UN General Assembly (1757) welcomed its establishment.

The Foundation is a politically, religiously and ideologically independent organisation. It carries out operational activities in the field of international development cooperation and is not a grant-making organisation. Its activities are based on the UN Charter. The Foundation is governed by an international Board of Directors and its activities are carried out by a Secretariat with headquarters in Uppsala. Internal organisation 

The Foundation currently has 13 staff members. The head office is located in Geijersgården, Övre Slottsgatan 2 in Uppsala. There is also an office in New York. The staff has a high level of expertise in international development cooperation.
