This Special Issue of Development Dialogue is the third part of a trilogy on genetic resources and biodiversity published by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation during the past 14 years. The first part of the trilogy on genetic resources was The Law of the Seed: Another Development and Plant Genetic Resources by Pat Roy Mooney (Development Dialogue 1983:1–2); the second was The Laws of Life: Another Development and the New Biotechnologies with Cary Fowler, Eva Lachkovics, Pat Roy Mooney and Hope Shand as authors (Development Dialogue 1988:1–2).
