This September, 58 years will have passed since Dag Hammarskjöld and the 15 persons accompanying him tragically died in a plane crash in Ndola, Zambia. This year marks 100 years of international civil service, originating in 1919 with the birth of the League of Nations.
The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation will host a commemorative event in Uppsala on Wednesday 18 September at 16:00. This commemoration is a public event and we welcome all who would like to remember the life and legacy of Dag Hammarskjöld to join us at the Foundation for the occasion. The event is hosted by Henrik Hammargren, Executive Director of the Foundation.
Henning Melber will make a brief presentation at the Foundation on Hammarskjöld’s legacy as an international civil servant. Coffee and tea will be served. After this, there will be a ceremony at the Hammarskjöld family grave, which is a short walking distance from the Foundation.
Please RSVP to communications@daghammarskjold.se before 16 September.
