In the resolution, the General Assembly (GA) underlines the shared responsibility to pursue the full truth concerning the conditions and circumstances resulting in the tragic death of Dag Hammarskjöld and of the members of the party accompanying him, and recognises that a further inquiry or investigation would be necessary to finally establish the facts of the matter.
The GA also welcomes the progress made by the Independent Panel of Experts, in particular, in interviewing witnesses to the final stages of flight SE-BDY and in examining and assessing the probative value of new information conveyed by the Hammarskjöld Commission and obtained from Member States and other sources. In the resolution, the GA further urges all Member States, in particular those addressed in the report of the Independent Panel of Experts, to release any relevant records in their possession and to provide to the Secretary-General relevant information related to the death of Dag Hammarskjöld and of the members of the party accompanying him.
