This month, ahead of the 79th session of the General Assembly opening on 10 September 2024, we are pleased to announce the release of two of our flagship reports: The Art of Leadership in the United Nations: Our duty to find new forms and Financing the UN Development System: Resourcing the future.
Per Knutsson, who served as Executive Director a.i. during the production of these reports, highlights their importance:
‘Enabling the critical role of UN leadership and effective resourcing of our multilateral response are prerequisites for success. These reports are resources, of data intelligence and visionary thoughts, critical reflection, which we hope will help us to succeed.’
The two reports delve into different yet interconnected aspects of the UN’s mission. The report Resourcing the Future is produced in close collaboration with the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTFO). It provides a comprehensive analysis of funding structures, recent financial data, and strategies to improve the quality of financing to meet global development goals and the 2030 Agenda in the UN development system.
Meanwhile, the other report Our duty to find new forms features fourteen personal and reflective articles on contemporary UN leadership, offering a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing today’s leaders. Each article is illustrated with an object or a sculpture from Backåkra Museum collection, items that once belonged to Dag Hammarskjöld and were carefully selected by him.
Together, these reports emphasise that effective leadership is inseparable from robust financing – and that securing the future of global development demands both. Read more and discover them below:
